Frequently Asked Questions
Have any question?
Yes. MJ Adventure Travel rents to tourists for self-drive in Kuala Lumpur. You must be at least 20 years old and hold a valid driving license held for at least 1 year, and present your passport or Malaysian ID at collection. If your license is not in English or Malay, you must also bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a certified English/Malay translation endorsed by your licensing authority. Drivers under 21, or holding a Probationary (P) license, are subject to an additional compulsory excess of RM400 per incident.
Choose based on how you travel. Self-drive gives maximum flexibility, while a car with driver is usually better for stress-free city movement, peak-hour traffic, and local navigation. Car-with-driver bookings are arranged individually, and the scope and terms are confirmed in your quotation.
We offer pick-up at KLIA, KLIA 2, SZB airport and locations across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, and we also deliver to hotels, condos, residences and offices across the Klang Valley. We can also deliver further afield by prior arrangement, so contact us with your location and dates. Delivery, collection and one-way drop-off charges may apply, and any charge is confirmed in your Booking Summary. Please bring your original ID and license, as we cannot release the car without them.
Malaysia drives on the left. Traffic in Kuala Lumpur is dense at peak hours, and parking rules vary by area, so it is worth planning your route and parking. Most importantly, highway tolls are electronic: you will need a Touch 'n Go card, which we sell at RM20 subject to stock, or you can buy one at any petrol station or convenience store. Contactless bank cards work on some urban highways but not on PLUS, the main intercity route.
Yes. one additional driver at no charge, two drivers maximum per car. They must be named on the rental contract before collection and meet the same age and license requirements, so please tell us who they will be when you book or at collection. Anyone driving who is not named triggers an extra RM400 excess and voids your damage protection and you would be liable for the full cost of any loss or damage.
Yes, anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia. Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and any travel outside Malaysia need our written approval first. Langkawi ferry trips are fine but need 2 days' written notice, and there is no fee, we just need to arrange it. Driving outside the approved area without approval voids your protection.
Book early whenever possible, especially for holidays and peak periods to secure better pricing and preferred categories.
Every booking includes the car with Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Theft Protection (TP) and unlimited mileage. All our cars are automatic. Your excess, deposit and taxes are confirmed in your Booking Summary before payment.
We are based in the Klang Valley, with pick-up at KLIA, KLIA 2, SZB airport and locations across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya. We can deliver further afield by prior arrangement, so contact us with your location and dates and we will confirm what is possible and any delivery charge. Wherever you collect the car, you are welcome to drive anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia.
No. Using the car on Grab, AirAsia Ride, GoJek, InDrive, Lalamove, GrabFood or any other ride-hailing, delivery or courier platform is not permitted, and neither is any commercial hire-or-reward use without our written consent. Doing so voids your damage protection entirely, which would leave you liable for the full cost of any loss, damage or third-party claim.
The car may only be driven in Peninsular Malaysia. Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan are not permitted, and neither are Singapore, Thailand, Brunei or Indonesia, without our prior written approval. Langkawi ferry travel is allowed but needs at least 2 days' prior written notice and our written confirmation. There is no fee, we just need to arrange it. Driving outside the approved area without approval may void your protection and leave you liable for all loss, damage, recovery and repatriation costs.
Yes. All our cars carry GPS and telematics devices that record location, speed and mileage during the rental period. We use this for vehicle security and anti-theft, incident investigation, summons handling, and to confirm the car stays within the approved area. The data is processed under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and our Privacy Policy, and may be shared with police, insurers or regulators where required by law.
We help wherever we can, including when the problem is not the car's fault, such as a flat tyre you would rather not change yourself, or a battery left flat overnight. If you are within reach of our team we will come to you, and where we can we will provide a replacement car; further out, we will find the nearest workshop and arrange for them to come to you. If the fault is with the car, our help is free. If it is something caused during your rental, we charge a small amount to cover our fuel and tolls getting to you, plus any parts, workshop or towing costs. We are available 9 AM to 9 PM daily. In an emergency outside these hours, call 999, Malaysia's emergency line for police, ambulance and fire, and message us.
Stay safe and follow police instructions. Then contact us immediately, lodge a police report within 24 hours, and take photos plus the other party's details. Please do not admit liability, settle privately, authorise repairs or accept an unauthorised tow truck. Failing to report within 24 hours may leave you liable for the full repair and replacement costs.
Yes, subject to availability. Contact us before your return time. The extension only takes effect once we have confirmed it in writing and payment is settled. Late returns without approval: free up to 59 minutes, half a day's rate up to 5 hours, then a full day.
Monthly rentals run in 30-day cycles with unlimited mileage. You will need to bring the car to our KL office for scheduled servicing when we notify you. Driving more than 500 km past the service due point may be charged at RM1.00 per excess kilometre.
Each booking is quoted individually. Your quotation confirms the vehicle, driver, hours or itinerary, and how overtime, tolls and parking are handled. These bookings run under that quotation rather than our self-drive rental terms.
Yes, we can supply child seats on request, subject to availability, so just add it when you book. Child restraints are legally required in Malaysia for children under 12 years, 136 cm or 36 kg. Fitting the seat correctly and choosing the right stage for your child are your responsibility, and it should be returned undamaged.
We meet you at the Arrivals hall at KLIA, KLIA 2 or SZB airport. Airport delivery runs from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, and if you would rather collect from us, our Kuala Lumpur office opens from 9:00 AM. Message us straight away if you are delayed. As long as you keep us informed we will hold your car at no extra charge. If your arrival falls outside the delivery window, we park the car at the airport and send you photos and collection instructions, provided your documents are verified in advance and your deposit is paid; airport parking from the time we park the car is payable by you. If we have not heard from you, our team waits up to 1 hour before returning to the office with the car, and you would then collect from our Kuala Lumpur office instead. After 2 hours with no contact, the booking is treated as a no-show.
Up to 59 minutes past your drop-off time there is no extra rental charge. From 1 to 5 hours late, half the daily rate applies. More than 5 hours late is charged as a full day, and each further 24 hour period is another full day. If you are late without our written approval, your damage protection may also be suspended for that period, so please contact us before your return time if you need longer.
Please check the car carefully before you hand it back, as we are not able to inspect for or safeguard belongings left behind. If we do find something, we will store it for 1 month from the date we recover it, after which it may be disposed of without further notice.
Yes. We accept Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay. We do not accept cash. The card must be presented at pick-up and the cardholder name must match the renter's ID, unless we have approved otherwise in advance. A refundable deposit is payable before collection, confirmed in your Booking Summary.
A refundable deposit is payable before collection. The amount depends on the car and is confirmed in your Booking Summary, from RM300 for compact cars. We may deduct for damage, excess, fines, fuel, cleaning or missing items. Any unused portion is released within 14 days after return and inspection, with an itemised statement.
Online bookings are charged in MYR at the time of reservation. Any additional charges at pick-up or return are also settled in MYR. Your refundable security deposit is separate and is payable before you collect the vehicle.
We accept Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay. We do not accept cash. Long-term and corporate bookings can be settled by bank transfer where we have approved it in writing in advance.
No. Tolls, parking charges and traffic fines during your rental are your responsibility. Our cars carry no Touch 'n Go tag, so you pay tolls yourself as you travel using a Touch 'n Go card or, on some urban highways, a contactless bank card. We sell Touch 'n Go cards at RM20 subject to stock. Traffic fines are different: where a summons reaches us for your rental period, we charge the full amount plus an RM25 administrative fee per summons, deducted from your deposit. If the deposit does not cover it, the balance is payable within 2 working days. Because summonses often arrive months later, this applies for up to 1 year after your rental ends.
Yes. we provide receipts for every booking and can issue company invoices if you supply billing details in advance. For company bookings, the individual renter and the company are jointly liable for all charges.
Monthly rentals are billed per 30-day cycle, with plan terms in your Booking Summary. Renewal takes effect once we have confirmed it in writing and the next period is paid. Returning early does not refund unused time unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
Late return, fuel shortfall, parking charges and optional add-ons. Charges may also include traffic summonses plus an RM25 administrative fee each, cleaning or odour penalties (RM100 to RM500 depending on severity), replacement of lost or damaged keys, your damage excess if there is an incident, loss-of-use charges, and any recovery or towing costs. Anything we deduct comes with an itemised statement.
Smoking or vaping in the car, or leaving a strong odour: RM200 to RM500 per incident depending on severity. Extra cleaning, stains, food or pet contamination: RM100 to RM250 per incident. Lost or damaged keys: the actual replacement, programming and towing cost, which is never waivable by any protection product. Where cleaning takes the car off the road, loss of use is charged at the daily rate, capped at 3 days.
Where a booking is made by or on behalf of a company, the individual renter and the company are jointly and severally liable for all charges, losses, damage and claims arising from the rental. Please supply your business billing details in advance if you need a company invoice.
Where we cannot rent the car because of an accident, damage, cleaning, odour treatment, seizure or investigation arising from your rental, loss of use is charged at the daily rental rate for the actual period it is unavailable, capped at 30 days or your excess amount, whichever is greater.
If the car is held by police, JPJ, customs, a court or any authority because of something arising from your use of it, a one-time administrative and recovery fee of RM2,500 applies, plus loss of use at the daily rental rate for the whole period the car is held, until it is released and available to rent again.
All our cars are automatic. Compact automatics like the Perodua Axia, Myvi, Bezza, Proton Saga and Volkswagen Polo suit city driving and are our best value. Sedans like the Toyota Vios, Honda City and Hyundai Elantra give more boot space and a smoother ride on longer drives. For families and luggage-heavy trips, take a 7-seater: the Toyota Rush, Perodua Aruz or Honda BR-V as an SUV, or the Perodua Alza as an MPV. The Kia Sportage is a 5-seat SUV with a large boot. We also keep a premium range of Volkswagen CC and Passat, and a Mercedes-Benz C200 for executive travel, weddings and special occasions. Tell us your trip and passenger numbers and we will suggest the right category. Deposit and excess vary by vehicle class and are confirmed in your Booking Summary.
All MJ Adventure Travel cars are automatic. We do not offer manual vehicles, so there is nothing to arrange if you are not used to driving one.
All rentals from MJ Adventure Travel include unlimited mileage. You can drive as far as you need within the rental period with no distance charges. Unlimited mileage does not reduce your responsibility for damage caused by reckless, negligent or prohibited use.
Same-to-same: return the car at the fuel level you received it, recorded at pick-up. A shortfall is charged at pump price; extra fuel is not refunded. Please use the correct fuel. Misfuelling is not covered by any protection product and all resulting costs are yours.
All rentals include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP). Your excess is the most you pay per incident, the amount is stated in your Booking Summary. SCDW and Full-Pro reduce it but are not comprehensive insurance. Never covered by any product: tyres, rims, glass, mirrors, interior, keys, undercarriage, misfuelling, flood, fire, prohibited use, unnamed drivers and late returns.
Check the exterior, interior, fuel level, lights, tyres and accessories against the Vehicle Condition Record, and take time-stamped photos. If you spot damage that is not recorded, tell us within 1 hour of your rental starting, or by 10 AM the next working day for after-hours collections. After that, the car is treated as accepted as recorded.
Malaysian highway tolls are electronic, and our cars do not come with a Touch 'n Go card or SmartTAG fitted, so you will need a way to pay before you set off. A Touch 'n Go card works on every highway, including PLUS for trips to Penang, Ipoh, Melaka or Johor. We sell cards at RM20 each subject to stock, so just ask when you book or at collection. You can also buy and reload one at any petrol station (Petronas, Shell, Petron, BHPetrol) or convenience store such as 7-Eleven or FamilyMart. Contactless Visa, Mastercard and MyDebit cards are accepted at open payment lanes on selected urban highways, including MEX, DUKE, LDP, SPRINT, KESAS, NPE, Besraya, SMART Tunnel and Penang Bridge. They are not accepted on PLUS. Because PLUS covers most intercity routes, we recommend carrying a Touch 'n Go card even if you plan to pay by bank card. You pay tolls as you travel, so no toll charges are added to your bill at return.
Most bookings are confirmed by category. You can request a specific model, but exact model availability is not always guaranteed.
More than 48 hours before pick-up: full refund, less any payment processing fee. Between 24 and 48 hours: 50% refund. Less than 24 hours: no refund. Long-term and lease-style plans follow your contract.
Usually yes, subject to availability and any rate difference. Changes to your pick-up or drop-off location need our approval in advance and may carry an additional charge. Any repricing is confirmed before we make the change.
Contact us as soon as you know about the delay. As long as you keep us informed, we will hold your car for as long as you need, at no extra charge. If your new arrival time falls outside our delivery window of 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, we park the car in the airport car park and send you photos, the bay location and collection instructions so you can pick it up yourself. For that we need your driving licence and your passport or IC verified in advance and your deposit paid, and the airport parking charge from the time we park the car is payable by you. If we have not heard from you at all, our team waits up to 1 hour before returning to the office with the car. Your booking still stands and there is no charge, but you would then collect from our Kuala Lumpur office instead. After 2 hours with no contact, the booking is treated as a no-show and is not refunded.
No. Unused rental time is not refunded on early return, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. If your plans change, contact us before your rental starts so we can look at amending the booking.
Cancellation refunds go back to your original payment method once approved. Deposits, or any unused portion, are released within 14 days after return and final inspection, with an itemised statement of any deductions. Your bank may take a few days more to post it.
If you do not collect within 2 hours of your booked pick-up time without telling us, the booking may be treated as a no-show, cancelled or forfeited, with no refund. Separately, if you cannot provide the required documents at collection we may decline to release the car, also with no refund.
Contact us with your pick-up and return photos and we will review against the Vehicle Condition Record signed at collection and the car pictures taken during the car handover and return. Please note the deadline: disputes must be submitted in writing, with evidence, within 14 days after your rental ends.
Yes. Contact us with your booking reference before the pick-up date. The replacement driver must meet the same requirements as any renter: at least 20 years old, a driving licence held for at least 1 year, the right documents, and our written approval before collection. Please arrange this in advance rather than at the counter, as the security deposit and payment card normally need to be in the name of the person collecting the car.
Your booking reference, proof of payment, and supporting evidence for the cancellation or service issue. Requests must be submitted in writing within 14 days after the end of your rental period.
If your booking falls outside the cancellation terms, for example cancelled less than 24 hours before pick-up, a refund is not available. We will explain which term applies and, where we can, offer to amend your booking instead. If you disagree with our assessment, you can raise it in writing within 14 days after your rental period ends.
Long-term and lease-style plans follow contract-specific terms and may include separate early termination rules. As with all our rentals, unused rental time is not refunded on early return unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
Yes. Any dispute about charges, service or vehicle condition must be submitted in writing, with supporting evidence, within 14 days after your rental period ends. After that we may not be able to entertain it.
Security deposits are released within 14 days after return and final inspection. If it's been longer than that, or longer than your bank's posting time after we have confirmed the release, contact us with your booking reference and we will trace the payment.
