Where to Buy a Touch 'n Go Card in Malaysia

To buy an Enhanced Touch 'n Go card for a self-drive trip in Malaysia, Touch 'n Go's own pages give three routes: the Touch 'n Go Shop, an order inside the TNG eWallet app, or an outlet from the official participating-outlet directory. The card page also links Product Disclosure Sheets and the Touch 'n Go Terms and Conditions, so read them before you pay. For an outlet purchase, search the directory for a location near your arrival or pickup point and confirm with that outlet that it sells the card and has stock, because the directory lists names and addresses only. For an online order, confirm when the card can reach you, since neither the card page nor the Help Centre states delivery timing. If you already have a card, or the rental car carries one, you may need a reload instead of a purchase. To find an in-person reload point, use the reload locator, a separate official page.

At vehicle pickup, ask whether the car already has a Touch 'n Go card or another toll setup. If it has a card, check the balance together with the rental team. If it has neither a card nor another setup, ask the rental team how the tolls are meant to be paid, and arrange a loaded card only if they say you need one. If you will use an existing card with a low balance, follow the reload steps below. Treat an airport counter, convenience store or petrol station as unconfirmed until the outlet itself says that it sells the card and has stock.

For the eWallet route to the Enhanced Touch 'n Go Card with NFC, the Help Centre explains the steps: in an app version that supports it (1.7.72 or above, per the Help Centre on 24 October 2026), tap the Transport icon, choose TNG card, then tap Order Now to reach the purchase page. Before you order, confirm that the card can reach you before you first need it. The card page and Help Centre describe purchase routes for the Enhanced NFC card only; neither says where to buy the classic card, so ask the rental team or the outlet if you want that one.

For an in-person purchase of the Enhanced card, use the official participating-outlet directory, which the card page offers under Or Selected Partners. The reload locator is titled Touch 'n Go Card Listing, adds a Get Direction link to each entry, and can be filtered by state and by reload with fee, reload without fee or where to use. It does not label which entries sell cards, so do not use it to find where to buy. For a reload, choose a reload with fee or reload without fee result, then confirm the service and the payment method it accepts before you travel.

Before you drive away

  • Ask about the car's toll setup : If a Touch 'n Go card comes with the car, ask who owns it, whether it must remain in the vehicle at return, and how any remaining balance will be handled. Record the rental team's answers so you can refer to them when you return the vehicle.

  • Use the right official page for the job : Search the participating-outlet directory for Enhanced-card outlets and the reload locator for reload points. Search near your arrival or pickup area and save two or three candidates, because a candidate may not sell the card or offer the reload you need.

  • Choose NFC if you want app reloads : Before you rely on phone reloads, add an Enhanced NFC card you own, or one the rental team confirms you may link, to TNG eWallet and check that your account works on your phone. Follow the card page's setup instructions, including its reminder to register the card on the Touch 'n Go portal.

  • Load enough before the expressway : If the car uses a card, check its balance against your planned route before you leave the pickup area, and keep a small buffer. If the balance is low, complete the reload before you enter the expressway: through the eWallet for an Enhanced NFC card, or at a reload point.

  • Keep the physical card within reach : If the car uses a card, place it somewhere the driver can reach without searching through luggage, such as a door pocket or the centre console. Keep it separate from hotel keys and other contactless cards so that you present the right card at the lane.

Classic card or Enhanced NFC card?

The official Touch 'n Go card page lists the classic card for tolls, train and bus fares, in-store payments, and parking. It lists the Enhanced NFC card for tolls, train and bus fares, parking, balance checks through eWallet, and reloads using the eWallet balance.

If you need a card for a short visit, choose one you can obtain and reload reliably. The Enhanced NFC card suits app-based reloads. If you prefer not to depend on app setup, plan a known reload point instead.

How do you reload without guesswork?

With an Enhanced NFC card you own or may link, add the card in TNG eWallet by entering or scanning its details, then use the reload button. To scan, Touch 'n Go's official instructions say to hold the card against the back of the phone.

For a card that you cannot reload by phone, use the official reload locator to find a listed reload point. Check the accepted payment method at that location. The page's category filter offers reload with fee, reload without fee and where to use. Choose one of the two reload categories, because a where to use result is not evidence that the location reloads cards. The locator does not say which card types a point reloads, so ask whether it reloads your card.

A first-toll checklist for rental drivers

Four checks before joining the expressway

  • Confirm what comes with the vehicle : Ask the rental team whether a card is included, whether the card stays with the car, and how you should leave it at return.

  • Check the balance : If a card is part of the toll setup, confirm its balance before departure, through the eWallet if it is an Enhanced NFC card. Do not assume a card left in the vehicle has funds on it.

  • Plan one reload option : If you use a card, know whether you will reload through the eWallet (Enhanced NFC card only) or at a physical reload point. Save the official reload locator rather than depending on an old list of shops.

  • Use the right payment method at the toll : If you use a card, keep it ready and follow the lane signs. If the vehicle has a different toll arrangement, follow the rental company's handover instructions.

Mistakes that create avoidable delays

What not to assume

  • Every branch of a chain sells cards : Confirm the exact branch's card-sales service and its current stock separately. Neither the participating-outlet directory nor the reload locator shows stock.

  • The airport will always have a card : Check the participating-outlet directory, confirm with the outlet, or ask your rental provider before arrival.

  • The eWallet replaces the physical card : The card page lists eWallet purchase, balance checks and reloads as features of the Enhanced NFC card. For a road trip, do not assume your phone alone will handle the toll.

  • An old toll budget is still accurate : Check the balance against your planned drive and keep a buffer instead of relying on a generic trip estimate.

Confirm how the car pays tolls and, if it uses a card, its balance and one reload method.

Sort out the tolls before the first plaza

  • If the rental car carries a card, confirm the balance and return terms; for another toll setup, follow the rental company's instructions. If you need a card, choose one route: order the Enhanced NFC card from the Touch 'n Go Shop or the eWallet if it can reach you in time, or use the participating-outlet directory and confirm with the outlet that it sells the card and has stock. If you use a card, set up one reload method, the eWallet for an Enhanced NFC card or a reload-locator point.

  • If you are still choosing a vehicle, browse our Kuala Lumpur rental options and plan the pickup point around the first route you intend to drive.

Frequently asked questions

For the Enhanced NFC card, the official Touch 'n Go card page links to the Touch 'n Go Shop and to a directory of selected participating outlets, and it lists purchase via eWallet as a feature of the card. Confirm delivery before ordering online, or confirm card sales and stock with the outlet before travelling.

The official pages we checked do not promise airport stock. Search the participating-outlet directory for an outlet near the airport and confirm with that outlet that it sells the card and has stock, or ask your rental provider what toll setup comes with the car at pickup.

Ask at handover whether the car already has a Touch 'n Go card or another toll setup, and if it has a card, check the balance together and confirm whether the card must stay with the vehicle at return. If the car has neither, ask how the tolls are meant to be paid, and arrange a loaded card only if you are told you need one.

Link the Enhanced NFC card (one you own, or one the rental team confirms you may link) in TNG eWallet: tap the TNG Card icon, enter the card details or use the scan function, and hold the card against the back of the phone when you scan. Once the card is added, tap the reload button. For a card you cannot reload by phone, use the reload locator: choose a reload with fee or reload without fee result, check which payment method it accepts, and ask whether it reloads your card type.

The official card page lists toll payments as a feature of both physical cards, and describes the eWallet as a way to purchase an Enhanced NFC card, check its balance and reload it. If the vehicle's toll arrangement uses a physical card, carry one with enough balance, and follow the rental company's instructions for any other arrangement.

Confirm the vehicle's toll setup. If it uses a card, check the balance, choose one reliable reload method and keep the card within reach. If you need a reload point, choose a reload with fee or reload without fee result in the reload locator and confirm its service before you travel.
